1 x 60 Minutes

On May 13, 1999. Canadian climber Dave Rodney pulls himself to 29,035 feet. The summit of Mount Everest. He is exhausted and jubilant. But within hours, celebration twists into despair. Mount Everest proves to Rodney just how merciless it can be. It changes his life.

In May, 2001. Rodney stands at the foot of Mount Everest for a second time. He is a more experienced climber and has a new team. However, he is plagued by memories of the 1999 trip. Can he make it to the summit a second time? Will Everest claim another life?

In Back to Everest, we follow Rodney’s two attempts at the mountain’s summit. Breathtaking videography takes us to the edge of the icefall and beyond. Rodney shares his personal story and captures our imaginations. Each step heightens our anticipation of the final reach for the summit.

A successful public speaker, Rodney’s photography, videography and written work have appeared on the likes of National Geographic, the Oprah Winfrey Show, and the BBC. His experience is an asset to this Partners in Motion documentary, which is to date the most comprehensive project featuring this Canadian hero.
