President/Director/Director of Photography

Chris Triffo has worked in the film business since 1984, starting out as an actor in front of the camera. He quickly became more interested in what occurs behind the lens, however, and began working as a cinematographer, director and director of photography.

Triffo received an Emmy® Award in 2001 for 13 Seconds: The Kent State Shootings, which aired on Discovery Communications (TLC) , History Television, Historia and UKTV. This production also received six awards at the 2000 SMPIA Showcase Awards. Triffo has garnered five Gemini Award nominations for his films, and was honoured in 1998 with the award for Best Direction for his film Dad. Dad has received over 15 awards, including two Geminis, Best Canadian Documentary and Best Directorawards at Hot Docs 1998, and a New York Film Festival Award for Best Social Commentary. His films have been screened at prestigious festivals like INPUT 98 and the Australian International Documentary Conference. Triffo has directed films for History Television, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, TLC, W, SCN, CBC Newsworld, and HBO Cinemax to name a few. Triffo has been involved in corporate projects like The Story of IPSCO's First 50 Years: Against All Odds, and has worked on numerous commercials, including the SaskPower CFL light bulb campaign, The Power is Yours.

Triffo is currently directing The Re-Inventors(35 x 30 documentary series (HD), History Television, Historia, Discovery HD International, Treasure HD, Discovery Asia, VIASAT, Nord License) and has recently been the Director for such projects as Legend Hunters(8 x 60 documentary series, CTV Travel, Travel Channel USA, ZDF, Discovery Canada, History UK, RTL, Zone Media), and Circus of God (1 x 60 documentary, Vision TV, TVE). Triffo's past work includes Crime Stories (48 x 60 documentary series, History Television, AETN Biography (BIO), Canal D, History UK, Discovery International, Telcast, TV4, Doruk Film, Daydreamer Worldwide), Disasters of the Century (47 x 60 documentary series, History Television, Zone Vision, HBO Europe, GA&A, WMVS, U7TV, Middle East Media), Vietnam: Canada's Unknown War (1 x 60 and 1 x 90 documentary, History Television, WMVS), Men of Valour: Heroes of the Victoria Cross (1 x 90 documentary, History Television, Foxtel Australia) and Dad (1 x 60 documentary, HBO, Vision, CBC, SCN, IFC, Life Network). Additionally, Triffo has acted as director, director of photography and cinematographer on numerous other documentaries, commercials and corporate projects.

Triffo is a full member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, and a member of both the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, and the International Documentary Association.
