March 6 , 2003 PRODUCTION COMPANY FIRST IN PROVINCE TO REPAY SASKFILM LOAN REGINA- Emmy® Award winning production company, Partners in Motion Inc., announced today it has repaid SaskFilm its 1998 production equity loan of $40,000 toward the television series Beyond Medicine (Season I). With focus on alternatives to traditional medicine, the series operated with a budget of $318,455. This achievement marks the first time in SaskFilm's history that a Saskatchewan production company has reimbursed an equity loan in full, moving SaskFim into a profit position on the series. In mid-February 2003, Partners in Motion also became the first company to fully repay the Independent Production Fund (formerly, the CFCN Fund) its $40,000 equity investment in Beyond Medicine, placing the IPF in a profit position as well. From this point forward, both organizations will profit from continued sales of the series. With a huge international demand for alternative health-related programs, Beyond Medicine was produced for domestic and international audiences. Licensed in over 60 countries, the series exemplifies the international market opportunity and incredible potential for factual and non-fiction programming. "This is a significant achievement for all involved in Beyond Medicine," says Ron Goetz, CEO, Partners in Motion. "While this industry can be tough, we're pleased to be finding our way in fact-based programming. The success of this show attests to the value of non-fiction production in this province and demonstrates that factual programming can be a good risk." "Partners in Motion has developed a reputation for quality in a lucrative niche market," says SaskFilm CEO Valerie Creighton. "Beyond Medicine is the first production to fully return the principal investment made by SaskFilm, moving SaskFilm into a profit position on the series. We congratulate Partners in Motion on the success of this series and look forward to continued successes throughout the Saskatchewan film and television community." Other fact-based programs have also proven viable for Partners in Motion. In 2000, the company reimbursed a Telefilm Canada equity loan for the Gemini Award winning documentary Dad. One of just a few cmpanies across Canada to achieve loan repayment, Partners also moved Telefilm into a profit position on Dad. Additionally, programs such as Disasters of the Century, Very Odd Jobs, and Medicne Demystified are also realizing international sales. Beyond Medicine was produced with Merry Dancer Media in association with W Network, SCN, Harmony Entertainment Management Inc., and the Canadian and Saskatchewan Film or Video Production Tax Credits. It is distributed internationally by the Multi-Media Group of Canada. Beyond Medicine airs Wednesdays on SCN and daily on One - the Body, Mind & Spirit channel. For More Information Contact:
