January 13, 2003 NATIONAL TELEVISION PREMIERE"Weather Untamed" Canada's Most Devastating Weather Disasters Featured in New Documentary Series. Regina, Saskatchewan, January 13, 2003 - Premiering Wednesday, January 15th at 9PM EST on History Television, "Weather Untamed"revisits the most extraordinary Canadian weather phenomenon with true personal accounts of survival. This five part series is produced by Emmy® Award-winning Partners in Motion for History Television with the support from the Canadian Television Fund, the CanWest Western Independent Producers Fund, Harmony Entertainment Management, the Saskatchewan Employment Tax Credit and the Canadian Film or Video Tax Credit. Gemini award-winning director Chris Triffo explores the extremes of Canada's favorite personality: the weather, featuring strange historical occurrences with their encompassing dramatic stories, mythology and science. This series tracks Canada's most tragic meteorological events including the Edmonton Tornado, the Québec Ice Storm, and the Saguenay Flood. "Weather Untamed" also relives the astonishing events in our history such as the 1962 Grey Cup 'Fog Bowl', the Hamilton 'Red Haze' and the day that Niagara Stopped Falling. The moments when all of Canada asked: "How could this ever happen?" Interviews with Canada's weather guru David Phillips, pig spleen weather predictor Gus Wickstrom, Highway 401 crash survivor Veronique Mandel, and many other Canadians who endured scathing skies, are skillfully interwoven with powerful archival footage and dramatic reenactments to tell the story of Canada's extreme weather. Premiering Wednesday, January 15th on History Television, Weather Untamed reflects the climatic diversity of our vast country, and examines historical events which reveal that, for all Canada's accomplishments, we are at the mercy of the skies.
