CBC SASKATCHEWAN AND FLICKS PARTNER ON DIGITAL DIVERSITY COMPETITION

Are you a young, aspiring film producer looking for a great opportunity to show off your work? Then we have the competition for you.

CBC Saskatchewan and Flicks International Film Festival for Young People are pleased to announce Flicks Digital Diversity Competition, our first-ever electronic media competition designed for young people between 15 and 21 years of age.

"We're looking for short videos, no longer than 15 minutes, about diversity in Saskatchewan. Celebrate your culture, tackle hard issues around racial discrimination, or explore how diverse communities are building bridges - the ideas are limited by your imagination only," Director of Radio and Television for the Saskatchewan Centre David Kyle said.

"For the past 13 years Flicks has been exposing children and youth to diverse multicultural films, and this competition is a natural extension of that mandate," Festival Producer Renée Penney said. "We now have opportunity to celebrate the work of young people in Saskatchewan and to provide an opportunity for them to showcase their work."

Winners will see their videos air on cbc.ca/sask and on SaskTel Max Local On Demand, Channel 48. One winner will also receive a paid entry fee to the 2009 Partners in Motion Film Camp.

"Partners in Motion's Film Camp gives real filmmakers a chance to use their skills to create their own short films under the direction of some amazing instructors. We are happy to provide a spot in the camp to the Flicks Digital Diversity Competition winner and look forward to seeing their projects", said Ron Goetz CEO of Partners in Motion.

The competition is open to individuals, or to groups of people who wish to work together to share a story about diversity.

"We recognize that many people in Saskatchewan, especially new Canadians, have compelling stories but they do not have the tools to put together a video," Kyle said. "We are encouraging schools and others who have access to audio and video facilities to partner with a community group or individual to develop these stories.  We will also take entries from individuals."

Entry deadline is December 31, 2008. Complete contest details are available online at cbc.ca/sask.
