PARTNERS IN MOTION WINS 11 AWARDS AT SHOWCASE

Regina production company, Partners in Motion, received 11 awards at the Saskatchewan Showcase 2002 Gala on Saturday, November 16th. Vietnam: Canada's Unknown War received 4 awards, including Best of Showcase.

The one-hour documentary tells of the thirty to forty thousand Canadians who served in the United States military during the Vietnam War. All but a fraction of them were volunteers. Vietnam: Canada's Unknown War fills in a missing piece of our national psyche; it is the story of a forgotten army of Canadians who served in a thankless war and came home to an indifferent and often hostile country.

In addition to Best of Showcase, craft awards were received by Chris Triffo for Best Direction (Non Drama); Trevor Aikman for Best Editing; and Scott Triffo, for Best Overall Sound. Vietnam: Canada's Unknown War was produced by Paul Millar, Partners in Motion and Ron Goetz, Executive Producer, Partners in Motion. The program began airing in Canada on History Television this past week.

Six other Partners in Motion productions won awards at Showcase 2002. ExtraOrdinary Lives won Best Documentary under 30 minutes and Best Special Effects Editing was awarded to Trevor Aikman and Jason Hujber. The 13 part series, which features ordinary people who have experienced extraordinary events was produced by Nova Herman, directed by Chris Triffo with Ron Goetz as Executive Producer. ExtraOrdinary Lives is currently airing on Life Network. Trading Places, another 13 part series currently airing on Life Network won Best Arts and Entertainment Program. Produced by Heather Kaisler and Ron Goetz, Executive Producer, each episode features two families that literally trade places for five days not knowing beforehand where they are going.

Two other productions produced by Paul Millar and Ron Goetz, Executive Producer, called Very Odd Jobs and Baby Crash respectively received awards for Best Educational and Best Original Score by Scott Triffo. Very Odd Jobs is a 13-part television series featuring interesting people with unique occupations and is currently airing on Canadian Learning Television and the Saskatchewan Communications Network. Baby Crash is a one-hour documentary that explores the declining birth rates prevalent in the G-7 nations and will be airing on the W Network.

Disasters of the Century, a 13 part television series produced by Nova Herman and directed by Chris Triffo with Ron Goetz as Executive Producer, received the award for Best Non-Dramatic TV Series. Disasters of the Century, a non-fiction series that reviews the worst disasters of the last century, looks not only at the devastating toll of natural and man-made disasters, but also the far reaching implications of each tragedy on our social history. Disasters of the Century is currently airing on History Television and the Saskatchewan Communications Network along with Canal D and Zone Vision in Europe. Production has also begun this fall for an additional five episodes that will begin airing in September of 2003.

A commercial for SaskPower, won the award for Best Commercial (30 to 120 seconds; with a budget over $10,000). The commercial was directed by Chris Triffo and produced by Gary Niesner in collaboration with MGM Communications.
